Arquebusiers by Patriartis Arquebusiers by Patriartis
Just got home from a trip, and I finally got to finish what I've been working on for quite a while. I've always been fascinated by warfare in different eras, and this time I felt that the early days of firearms during the 15th-17th century needed some representation around here =) What you're seeing is rows of tercios* duking it out on a huge battlefield; and the brave battle-drummer trying to avoid bullets through sheer willpower.

*The tercio was an infantry formation made up of pikemen, swordsmen and arquebusiers or musketeers in a mutually supportive formation. The formation dominated European battlefields in the sixteenth century and the first half of the seventeenth century and is seen by historians as a major development of Early Modern combined arms warfare. Thanks! Basically it's just the standard round brush, used both on default and with adjustments. Other than that it consists of many many many brushstrokes and colors to get a rich and crisp look which I like =)

You're welcome! :)

Really? That's helpful to know. Do you know of any good brush packs you've found that are great for textures on skin, material or the environments?

Personally I'm a fan of Dan LuVisi's brush pack, although I use the standard painting brush like 95% of the time (I change the brush settings though). I actually don't use specific texture brushes (except for some cloud/smoke brushes) because I feel that it doesn't fit very well with my style of drawing. Some would call it cartoony. When I need nicely textured surfaces and can't be bothered to render them well with my standard brush, I tend to incorporate textures from CGtextures =)

By the way, you can get Mr LuVisi's brush pack here:

Happy drawing!

Oh cool! Thanks for the help. I already use his brush pack though. It's amazing. I just need to learn how to use them more proper. Especially the one for skin texture. I'm sure there are tutorials, but I was just wandering if there were specific packs that I should put my best interest in and it turns out that I already have a great pack XD
Thanks for taking the time to give me advice though. Much appreciated :)

I'm glad that you even wanted to help ^^ most of the artists that I've come across (that are amazingly talented) don't usually talk much anymore, so I couldn't ever get advice. But I'm glad you responded. Thank you :)

Thank you very much! Details are usually very important to me. They are also the things I tend to get stuck on unless I'm careful ^^

Thanks, I'm glad you like it =) Yeah, these early rifles may not have been the most accurate and high-velocity killing tools, but they produced a whole lot of smoke which could linger quite a while.
